Is Diabetes Type 2 a Different Disease in Lean Individuals?

Diabetes Type 2 may occur in lean individuals.  As reported in Medscape genomic medicine, there are about 50 genes associated with type 2 Diabetes many of which but not all are related to an increased amount of body fat and eating behavior.  The genetic factors that are associated with diabetes and are not related to body mass index are more prevalent in lean people with diabetes type 2.  This study raises the suspicion    that Diabetes Type 2 may be a different disease in lean or obese individuals.
