Diabetes and Exercise

What do you do with your pump when you exercise? Some people with type I Diabetes think they should take their pump off when they exercise.  While blood sugar typically goes down during exercise, when doing endurance exercise the need to prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) needs to be balanced against the need to prevent ketoacidosis.  You can see how your body reacts by testing its response on a treadmill or still bike at home before taking to the road.  If sugar is high check for acetone, and do not exercise if these are positive Your health care provider should be advised about the type of exercise you would like to do and help you plan a routine.  For further tips on exercise, I invite you to click here for the full article.
