Diabetes News: Watching Television Linked to Diabetes!

Do you watch too much TV?  Did you know the more hours spent watching TV, the greater the chance of developing Diabetes?  A study done in Australia shows a direct correlation between the number of hours of Television watched and the probability of developing dysmetabolic syndrome in adults more than 60 years old.  Diabetes type 2, hypertension, dyslipidemia (high triglycerides with low HDL) are components of dysmetabolic syndrome which is attributed to too much abdominal fat.   Other risk factors include lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol and poor nutrition.  The authors recommend this population engage in mild activity while watching TV.  They hope to see improvement when hours in front of the TV are reduced.  Click here for the full article.
