Diabetes News:Dapagliflozin Trying to get FDA Approval

A new class of diabetes medication, which will help people with diabetes improve their diabetic control had been rejected by the FDA because there were excessive cases of breast and bladder cancer.  This drug,  which works by increasing excretion of sugar,  works differently than drugs currently available and may have added benefits of promoting weight loss and lowering blood pressure.  The FDA has asked for more data to determine if the excess in malignancy rate is real.  Please see the link below for the full article on this new innovation.  Let us know how much risk you feel is appropriate to improve your diabetic control and lower your incidence of complications.  We as a society will have to weight the risk and benefit of every new drug; if we are willing to assume less risk there will be less innovation.  We would appreciate your reviewing the full article and letting us know how you feel.
